Leucadia Wastewater District’s Lateral Grant Program
Many customers in Leucadia Wastewater District’s (LWD) service area recently received a flier from a local plumbing company advertising video camera inspections of sewer laterals (wastewater pipes that run from the sidewalk to residential property). The company reports issues of cracked sewer laterals, root intrusion, leaking pipe joints, bellied drain lines and deteriorated piping material.
While LWD encourages the use of video inspections to periodically determine the condition of your private sewer lateral, the District did not authorize the plumbing company flier nor does it endorse plumbing companies. Most importantly, the District ensures customers that the main sewer lines that run throughout the service area (generally in the street) are inspected on a regular basis and are in very good condition.
Occasionally, slow drains or other issues may cause reason to suspect a private property sewer problem. Leucadia Wastewater District recommends consulting local better business bureau agencies and obtaining multiple plumbing estimates before contracting for video sewer inspections and/or sewer lateral work. LWD staff is available to answer questions and review private lateral videos with service area residents.
If sewer lateral work is required, contact LWD for an appointment to determine if the proposed work qualifies for LWD’s Lateral Grant Program. LWD must pre-approve and provide a visual inspection of all completed work. Customers may qualify for reimbursement of half the repair cost — up to a maximum $3,000 reimbursement.
