It's World Environment Day 🌎 🌿

Since 1974, World Environment Day has been celebrated on June 5th every year to raise awareness and promote healthy actions on pressing environmental issues.

The theme for this year will focus on solutions to plastic pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution. According to the United Nations, 19-23 million tonnes of plastic end up in lakes, rivers and seas. Today, plastic clogs our landfills, leaches into the ocean and is combusted into toxic smoke, making it one of the gravest threats to the planet. Microplastics find their way into the food we eat, the water we drink and even the air we breathe.

We deeply care about the state of our oceans, as the District pumps back secondary treated water from the Encina Water Pollution Control Facility that would normally go out the ocean outfall to our Gafner Water Recycling Facility. To prevent plastic pollution, the District reminds you to only flush human waste and toilet paper. Do not flush wet wipes and plastic.
