Did you know? Storm drains and sewer lines are two completely separate underground pipe systems, managed by different agencies.
Sewer System (LWD): Carries wastewater from your home to a treatment facility. Everything gets treated before it goes anywhere near the ocean.
Storm Drains (individual cities): Carries rainwater and street runoff directly to the ocean - no treatment.
Summer is here. Check surf conditions before you head out!
LWD’s Ponto Beach surf cam has been running 15+ years and is the most visited page on our website. 🔗 bit.ly/pontosurfcam
LWD, San Elijo JPA, and Olivenhain MWD are teaming up again to give students a hands-on look at careers in the water industry, Oct 8.
Stay tuned for registration details.
You won’t believe what our crews find in the pipes.
This spring alone: tree branches pulled from a sewer main, abandoned bathroom connections causing water backup, and illegal drains hooked into the system. Each one is a potential blockage - or worse, a spill near an environmentally sensitive area.
Our team investigates every issue with CCTV cameras and sometimes confined space entry to remove obstructions by hand.
