It's World Reef Day 🌎 🌊
Industrial pollution, plastic pollution, sewage, chemical sunscreens and unmanaged high-density tourism all threaten coral reefs. The reef destruction that has happened up until now has been caused by humans, and we can fix it.
Three simple things you can do to make a difference are:
1️⃣ Use #ReefSafe sunscreen
2️⃣ Reduce single use plastics
3️⃣ Share this post and spread awareness of this issue

The District pumps back secondary treated water from the Encina Water Pollution Control Facility that would normally go out their ocean outfall to our Gafner Water Recycling Facility.
From here, the secondary water is treated a third time to meet title 22 standards required by the County Health Department for landscape irrigation purposes at the Omni La Costa south golf course.
LWD Field Services Technicians discovered this manhole lid completely broken off and exposed while out performing routine inspections in an easement between Rancho Santa Fe Road and Calle Madrid in Carlsbad.
As a reminder, tampering with LWD manholes is prohibited.
An open manhole lid is considered a hazard and poses a risk of injury. Also, debris or other objects may fall into the open manhole potentially causing a sewer backup or spill.
For the health and safety of yourself and others, please do not tamper with manhole lids.

During the May 12 Board meeting, June Honsberger from Official La Costa Canyon High School presented to the Board of Directors her class’ project about how LWD’s Teacher Grant funded the school’s Native Tree Garden and Outdoor Classroom 🌳
