The District maintains more than 220 miles of underground sewer pipes to serve our residents and businesses.
Wastewater from your neighborhood flows through these sewer pipes and ultimately to the regional Encina Wastewater Plant for treatment. While most of our sewer pipes are located under public streets, some are located in difficult to reach areas such as canyons and private property.
The District wants to extend a warm welcome to our new Director Chris Roesink.
Chris Roesink was appointed to the Board of Directors on June 9th during a Board meeting. Mr. Roesink, who will represent District 1, is a third-generation San Diegan and 15-year resident of La Costa.
He has served on various local Boards and Committees in years past and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration degree from San Diego State University.

For those celebrating with a BBQ, please remember to put your #Grease and #Fat in a tin can to cool, and once cooled, throw it in your trash.
Fats, oils, and grease poured down a drain can clog up your sewer line, our main sewer lines and potentially cause a #Sewage spill or backup into your home. If you celebrate the 4th at the beach, please pack out what you brought in and pick up an extra piece of trash to help keep our beaches clean.

Installing or resurfacing a pool? 🏊🏽♂️ Please dispose of the remaining pool plaster properly!
With summer in full swing, a pool is an alternative to the beach to enjoy our warm Southern California weather. Unfortunately, our technicians are finding left-over pool plaster from pool projects that has hardened in our sewers. You should never pour hardening materials like plaster down the drain.
It's World Oceans Month 🌊
The District is lucky to reside alongside miles of some of California's most scenic coastline- in turn we must protect & conserve it.
According to the United Nations, we are taking more from the ocean than can be replenished, as 90% of big fish populations are depleted, and 50% of coral reefs are destroyed.
At the District, we try to do our part by preventing sewage spills and recycling and treating wastewater, in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

This photo shows the construction of the original Gafner Water Recycling Facility as two gentlemen finished the base floor of the plant’s digester.
Thanks to their hard work, the District is able to provide recycled water for irrigation at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa's golf course.

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our long-standing Board member Allan H. Juliussen.
Director Juliussen, served on the LWD Board of Directors from 1992- 2004, then again from 2005-2021. He served for several years as President of LWD's Governing Board and actively participated as a member of LWD's Engineering Committee, as well as the Community Affairs Committee.
