This award highlights our commitment to community education and engagement - especially through hands-on programs that help students and residents better understand wastewater, recycled water, and environmental stewardship.
Our Field Services Team recently visited Capri Elementary School to bring wastewater education to life and present in both English and Spanish!
Through hands-on demonstrations and real equipment, students learned how our wastewater system works, why only water belongs down the drain, and how everyday actions help protect public health and the environment. We loved the great questions and enthusiasm from these future water stewards!

Three local educators are bringing hands-on water and wastewater education into their classrooms, reaching more than 600 students across our service area. Through creative, real-world projects, they’re helping students understand sustainable water use, wastewater systems, and environmental stewardship.
The Districts Make the Difference annual student video scholarship contest has launched!
This nationwide contest helps raise awareness about the essential services provided by special districts like wastewater, water, and other public services communities rely on every day.
The top scholarship is $2000, with additional scholarships for second and third place. Each winning entry also wins $500 for their teacher of choice!
Contest Period: January 2: March 31, 2026

Homeowner reminder: sewer laterals are your responsibility.
The sewer lateral is the underground pipe that connects your home to the main sewer line. Keeping it in good condition helps prevent backups, protect the system, and reduce the risk of costly repairs.
Did you know LWD uses cameras and smoke testing to protect the wastewater system?
CCTV inspections allow us to look inside sewer pipes to identify cracks, blockages, or root intrusion. Smoke testing helps detect illegal connections that allow stormwater into the system - reducing the risk of overflows during heavy rain.
These tools help us fix small issues before they become big problems.
